REGULATIONS
• First and foremost, we ask that all members of AWKIF make use of their better judgment and common sense. We identify as an intermediate to advanced roleplay. As such, the staff won’t be doing any hand-holding or coddling of new members. This isn’t to say that we actively dislike newbies, but rather that it isn’t our job to teach you how to RP. If you are new to RPing, feel free to ask questions and see if there’s anyone willing to help you out with improving your writing, but don’t feel entitled to staff intervention just because you’re having trouble. • We ask that you listen to staff direction, and accept staff decisions the first time around. Being that each and every RP is a melting pot of sorts, filled with a variety of personalities, we understand that there may be differences in opinions regarding such things as character creation, rule enforcement, and plot development. We both accept and encourage open discussion and constructive criticism regarding a member’s ideas and the state of the site. However, if a staff member tells you to bring a certain discussion to an end, or makes a final ruling on what is and is not acceptable in-character, we ask that you respect these decisions the first time. This isn’t a suggestion, nor is it something that we will be lenient about. The staff is here to make decisions, not to spend their time arguing with members about the fairness of these decisions. If you legitimately believe a staff member is treating you unfairly, you may appeal to the administrator, Amaranth, who will then review the matter and make a final decision. • We ask that all members go into sufficient detail in their posts, so as to better facilitate conveyance of the plot and give other members more to work with. As such, we require that all members stick to a strict 200-word minimum for all in-character posts. If you have trouble meeting this requirement, ask around and see if anyone is willing to give you pointers. • God-modding, power-playing, and meta-gaming are all banned on the site. Though more experienced members may already be aware of what each of these terms mean, we will define them here for the sake of convenience. God-modding refers to controlling another member’s character without their permission. Power-playing is defined as treating one’s character as unbeatable, in that they dodge everything in combat and are nearly infallible. Meta-gaming involves one’s character having knowledge that they couldn’t possibly have within the scope of the thread or RP as a whole. If an instance of any of these is seen, the offending member will be warned, and any successive offenses will lead to said member being banned. • We ask that all members stick strict to typical RP etiquette. This means not only being pleasant to work with, but also treating another person’s character with the respect that they deserve. Be sure to represent your partners’ characters as they were meant to be portrayed, and not manipulate them because of your own OOC opinions or vendettas. This doesn’t mean that your character cannot think badly of another character in-RP, but rather that your narration shouldn’t make brash, inaccurate, or unfair judgments on another character for OOC reasons. In addition, posting order should be followed, and no members should skip one of their partners’ turns unless they have the permission of either the partner in question or the staff. • Here on AWKIF, we wish to develop something of a familial community and environment. All members should respect one another, and treat others as they would wish to be treated. That being said, we will also not tolerate certain members being oversensitive in general. We understand that many people have had bad experiences with certain things, or are triggered by certain topics. However, there is a difference between having an issue with one particular topic, and having an issue with many things simply because you are squeamish. Unfortunately, this isn’t a site for people who will find an issue with every facet of a conversation, due to their own thin skin. Keep discussion appropriate, avoid obviously distasteful topics such as sexual assault, discrimination, and violence, but also don’t be a cry baby. If you have a problem with something, contact a member of staff and we, as a whole, will decide whether to say something to the offending member. • All characters must have their profiles approved by a staff member before being eligible for in-character posting. If a member posts with their character before this two-review quota has been reached, the character will be archived and the member will have to start over with an entirely new character if they wish to continue to roleplay on the site. • We ask that you register a new account for each character you make. This keeps the site neat and organized, and allows us to sort them into their proper member groups. Display names should be set as the character’s full name, in the Western tradition of “Given Name, Surname”. • No characters will be approved that seem to be carbon copies of characters from other shows. While we recognize that there may be some overlap when it comes to personality, there is a difference between being inspired by a particular character, and simply wanting to RP as a particular character. Such differences should be obvious, and easy to pick up, but if you want to be sure, please take it up with a member of the staff. • Due to Proboards Terms of Service, we ask that you try to keep all conversation and images posted on the site, both in-character and out of character, PG-13. This means no excessive or particularly inappropriate swearing, no discussion of topics that are mature in nature, and in particular no sexualized conversation or images including nudity. If a member is found to be in violation of this rule, the offending message will be removed, and the member will either be warned or banned, depending on the severity of the offense. We are very strict about this, because a single misjudgment on the part of one member could result in the site as a whole being taken down. • Members should not attempt to pass themselves off as two different people, to gain any sort of advantage in-RP. If any member is found to be in violation of this rule, they will be immediately and permanently banned from the site, without exception. |
